On March 29, 2018, the first university students’ “mass entrepreneurship and innovation” IP right safeguarding agency—Hubei University Students’ Innovation and Mass Entrepreneurship IP Right Safeguarding Assistance Center unveiling ceremony was held in the conference room of Wenhong Building, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law Nanhu Campus.

Jianxing Shi, deputy secretary of Hubei Provincial Committee of Communist Youth League of China, Hao Cheng, deputy director of Hubei Provincial Intellectual Property Bureau, Wengui Wang, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, and Handong Wu, director of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law Academic Committee, Wenlan School senior professor and honorary director of Center for Studies of Intellectual Property Rights, attended the unveiling ceremony. At the ceremony, Jianxing Shi, Hao Cheng, Wengui Wang and representative members of the expert service team unveiled the nameplate of Hubei University Students’ Innovation and Mass Entrepreneurship IP Right Safeguarding Assistance Center.

Bin Yang, partner of East & Concord Partners, was appointed to be one of the first members of the expert service team of Hubei University Students’ Innovation and Mass Entrepreneurship.

Background

University students are the vital force of “mass entrepreneurship and innovation.” Knowledge-based entrepreneurship is an important force for national economic upgrading and transformation. However, it is common that university students’ patents are infringed upon when they start up businesses or make innovations. Problems such as lack of awareness of IP protection, the lack of IP education in universities, and insufficient legislation and enforcement are prominent, seriously affecting university students’ entrepreneurship enthusiasm and the orderly proceeding of the mass entrepreneurship and innovation work. To strive to resolve these problems, Hubei Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League, Hubei Provincial Intellectual Property Bureau and Zhongnan University of Economics and Law jointly established the first university students’ mass entrepreneurship and innovation IP right safeguarding assistance center inChina. With the organization advantage of the Communist Youth League, the functional advantage of the intellectual property bureau and the academic advantage of universities, it built a professional volunteers service team for right safeguarding purpose, launched IP protection studies, consultation, legal right safeguarding and training in university students’ mass entrepreneurship and innovation to actively help push forward healthy and orderly development of mass entrepreneurship and innovation among university students.
